Laura Prepon is Chelsea Handler in Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea

Laura Prepon, who made an immediate name for herself as Donna on That 70’s Show, has snagged the lead role in NBC’s Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, based on the autobiographical book with the same name by comedienne Chelsea Handler, according to Deadline.

Laura will portray Chelsea Hanson, a “fresh-faced single cocktail waitress highly opinionated and open about her love to drink and have sex.” The show is written and executive produced by Dottie Zicklin (Dharma & Greg) and Julie Larson. The author of the book, Chelsea Handler, will also be an executive producer.

While I thought Laura was great on That 70’s Show and her stint on How I Met Your Mother, I really can’t picture her in this role. Handler didn’t exactly set the world on fire with her controversial ramblings that detailed such interesting things as a weird phobia about red-headed men, a quick little brush with the law that resulted in an arrest in prison, and an odd obsession with midgets. The fact that the book became a best-seller is more of a testament to the power of a celebrity to move a book off the shelves than it is about the actual content of the book.

If this is the kind of stuff that Laura’s agent is sending her way then I’d suggest finding another agent. Of course, she did also land a role on Castle so I guess her agent isn’t all bad.
