A new still has been released from the upcoming film The Woman in Black, starring Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe. In the photo Radcliffe’s character, Arthur Kipps, is shown wielding an axe and looking cautious, or perhaps menacing, or even gassy, depending on how you feel about Radcliffe’s acting abilities.

The Woman in Black is based on the gothic thriller novel of the same name by Susan Hill. It centers on Kipps, a young lawyer who travels to a remote small town in order to attend the funeral and settle the estate of Mrs. Alice Drablow. While there, he begins to uncover the town’s secrets and becomes caught up in a series of mysterious, chilling events.

The upcoming film version, also starring Ciaran Hinds (Rome) and Janet McTeer (Sense and Sensibility), will be released in theaters on October 28, 2011. It was directed by James Watkins and the script was written by Jane Goldman (Stardust).

Not one to rest on his piles of Potter money, the diverse Daniel Radcliffe is currently in rehearsals for his Broadway musical debut in the revival of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, co-starring Tammy Blanchard (Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows) and John Larroquette (The West Wing). Previews begin February 26, 2011, with opening set for March 27.
