Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen Vs Gary Oldman as Dracula – Battle of the Lovelorn Vampires

Love is in the air this month at BSCreview’s Character Combat, as two lovelorn movie vampires go head to head. Who is the more desperate for love? Who is the one with the most power? Who is gonna win the battle and the girl?

Time to fight for Eternal Love!

In 1992, Francis Ford Coppola, brought us Bram Stoker’s Dracula, with Gary Oldman in the title role. This Dracula is an immortal broken man, who is lost without his one true love. That is, until he finds the reincarnated spirit of his long lost love in the form of a young woman named Mina. Dracula will risk everything to reclaim what was lost to him and will kill to feel Love’s touch once more.

VS.

In 2008, teenage girls swooned, and the rest of the world let out an exasperated sigh as Robert Patterson hit the large screen as Edward Cullen in Twilight. This vampire brought the world something new…an EMO-Sparkling – “Vampitarian” (only drains small mammals), who gives long penetrating stares and appears to be constipated if the looks on his face are any indication. He wants love from Bella, who wants to be a vampire, so badly that Edward has to brood and run away from her quite often to keep from biting her.

Let’s get the results…

Dracula, descended of royal blood, is undisputed King of all vampires. He was cursed by God and is far older than Edward, who is just a commoner turned by another vampire. Both possess great supernatural powers and need to drink blood to survive. They both are searching for love, but they do things quite differently to achieve it.

Dracula is just plain evil; he kills, seduces, and lies to get what he wants. Edward, on the other hand, rarely kills, broods, and often runs from the love he desires. Where Dracula is the hunter, Edward is the protector. I would be more afraid of Dracula than Edward, if I were to cross either in a dark alley. Both have enemies out to kill them and are both equally misunderstood by the living.

Edward is a force to be reckoned with, but only if you seek to harm his coven or Bella. So unless you are a tasty fawn, rabbit or squirrel, you are quite safe. Chip and Dale (er, the chipmunks of Disney fame) live in fear of Vampitarians daily and shudder when they hear the dread name, Cullen. The most important power that Edward has over Dracula is that he can daywalk and, wait for it…*SPARKLE!* Now there is a vampiric power that strikes fear into the hearts of mortals. Dracula makes most people run in fear or strike to kill, while Edward just needs a “Man” card and has a bright future as a disco ball.

Dracula ultimately fails to achieve true love in the flesh and dies once more, permanently. Edward wins the ”Love” battle and moves into a little white house with Bella and a damphir baby. So despite his brooding and looks of constipation, he gets what he wants in the end. Congrats to you, Edward Cullen.

However, what happens if these two immortal beings locked in physical battle?  My money would be on Dracula, if they are not fighting during the day. Edward could be sneaky and attack Dracula during the day, but I don’t think he has the “fangs” to do it. There is know doubt that both characters spawn feelings of love lost and regained, while exhibiting sexual tension. Both are also striking figures of film that cause women to swoon.

I have to call this battle a…TIE!

Edward wins for LOVE! … Dracula for POWER!

So there you have it.  Where do you stand on the results of Love’s great immortal challengers? Let me know…and see you next month for our next exciting Character Combat!

“The most important power that Edward has over Dracula is that he can daywalk”

You need to re-read ‘Dracula’ — The Count can also daywalk, contrary to popular belief, although his powers are only that of a mortal man (and this is a point mentioned in the Coppola movie).

I think Dracula is still the King of all vampires (or voevode, if you will)!
