Ryan Reynolds to Team with Zach Galifianakis in R.I.P.D.?

Ready to see darker side of Zach Galifianakis? He cracked us up with his ‘lone wolf’ in The Hangover and got our attention in a slightly more serious role as a mental patient in It’s Kind of a Funny Story. Now, the LA Times is bringing word that Zach might be moving towards a grittier role in R.I.P.D., based on the Dark Horse comic book about dead police officers who patrol the underworld. R.I.P.D. stands for Rest In Peace Department and Zach might be showing up as a deceased lawman alongside Ryan Reynolds, who would be the main character, Nick Cruz.

In the Dark Horse comic, Nick is gunned down in the line of duty and trades a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for the chance to find the person who killed him. There’s a rumor floating around that Zach would be cast a centuries-old gunslinger that’s partnered with Nick.

Robert Schwentke (Red) is directing the film, and Universal Pictures plans to begin production in the summer.

Ryan Reynolds has said previously that, because of his busy schedule, he would appear in either Deadpool or R.I.P.D. but not both. Since R.I.P.D. already has a director and Deadpool consists of just a script at the moment, it looks like Ryan will be suiting up as a dead police officer in the near future.

While waiting for R.I.P.D. to get underway, you can catch Zach in The Hangover 2 in May and the new Muppets movie in November.
