Viggo Mortensen Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman?

Viggo Mortensen in The Road

“Come to me, son of Jor-El, kneel before Viggo,” or something to that effect might be heard in the Christopher Nolan/Zack Snyder reboot of Superman, according to THR.

Viggo Mortensen is considered to be a ‘person of interest’ for the role of General Zod, although no talks have started yet, and plans could hinge on whether Viggo takes a lead role in Snow White and The Huntsman. Sources indicate, that while Mortensen isn’t the only one being considered for the role, he appears to be a favorite for the part.

In the comics, the evil Zod never did impress me much. I know the number one reason he was written into the story was to give Supes some serious competition since Kryptonian versus Kryptonian took away the man of steel’s strength advantage but the story-lines with him just didn’t grab me. However, Zod became a strong and interesting character in the movies with Terence Stamp playing the role and I always wished he’d make another appearance. Instead, I got Richard Pryor. Ugh!

I can easily see Mortensen in the villainous role and possibly even outshining Stamp’s performance, although I’m still trying to wrap my head around the idea of Kevin Costner as Pa, but anything’s possible if they can turn a British guy into someone raised in Smallville, Kansas.

In addition to filling the roles of Zod and Jonathan Kent, Snyder is also meeting with people for three female characters, as well.
