Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula, Priest, DarkChylde: Crypt Keeper’s Corner

Welcome back for more blood-soaked fun. This week, the Corner is going to be combined with the storyline from the live-action Smurfs movie.

Okay, not really, but it seems like mash-ups are the current big thing in both the publishing world and the film industry, but just because something can be done doesn’t necessarily mean it should be done. Sure, maybe the world is ready for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer on the big screen, but could anyone ever truly be ready for…

Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula

Seriously? Afraid so. On the surface, it actually sounds like a decent idea – Two of the most infamous robbers in history facing off against the most fearsome vampire legend ever created. It sounds like a box office gold mine…or at least something that could build up a cult following. Unfortunately, the B-movie execution guarantees that this film will be DOA.

The poster itself actually looks kinda cool, with a slightly noir/pulp look to it but I think they stole the Bates Motel from Psycho and put it in the upper right corner.

The trailer shows people shooting guns, people shooting guns, and more people shooting guns. We’re also introduced to possibly the lamest looking Dracula that’s ever existed in movie history. In vamp form he looks decent enough, but in human form…WTH!?!?

Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula stars Tiffany Shepis as Bonnie and Trent Haaga as Clyde. The film is playing in theaters with a very limited release and it hits DVD on April 26th.

Priest

Moving on to more serious vampire fare, we have the trailer for Priest, starring Paul Bettany in the title role. Check it out and then pay attention to the challenge below.

Pretty cool trailer, huh? Think you could make one similar…or even better? Sony wants to see what you got.

From now through March 18, fans can edit together their own trailer using video clips, sound effects, dialogue, transitions and music from the film, for the opportunity to win a trip for two to the L.A. premiere.

Following the submission period, a panel of Sony judges will select the top 10 finalists. From there, fans will determine the Grand Prize Winner through online voting from March 24-31.

The Priest in 3D Trailer Challenge is accessible now on the “Make Movies” tab at www.facebook.com/Sony, and is part of Sony’s ongoing make.believe (pronounced “make dot believe”) brand initiative designed to inspire creativity among consumers and engage them with programs centered on the make.believe spirit: “Believe that anything you can imagine, you can make real.”

Each of the nine runners-up in the Challenge will receive a Bloggie Touch™ and four tickets to see Priest at a local theater. In addition, in a companion sweepstakes open to those who voted in the Challenge, 10 randomly selected individuals will win a Sony Cyber-shot® camera.

Now’s the time to put your love for horror and movie trailers to use. Put together something awesome and win the cool prizes mentioned above, along with something even better – bragging rights for the mad skillz that are yours and yours alone.

From Page to Screen: Darkchylde

John Carpenter’s adaptation of Randy Queen’s Darkchylde comic book series has been moving dreadfully slow – so slow the shuffling zombies from Dawn of the Dead could beat it in a footrace – but hope has been re-ignited for the story to finally find its way to the big screen with a recent tweet from Carpenter, “New “Darkchylde” script just arrived. Very cool.”

Very cool, indeed, John. Now get your butt in gear and get this thing made already. Haven’t heard of Darkchylde before? No prob, because I’ve got the synopsis for you right here, and an awesome clip of test footage that was shot when this thing first started to take shape. Check it out and tell me this wouldn’t be awesome with a decent budget behind it.

Darkchylde Synopsis:

Darkchylde is based on the comic by Randy Queen about a good hearted southern teen cursed to become the creatures from her many recurring nightmares. Every time Ariel Chylde transforms, she sheds her skin and a new nightmare emerges from her Id to act out her deepest, darkest impulses.

The trailer shows a little skin, but no blatant nudity, so don’t watch it if a trip to the beach stresses you out.

That wraps up the Corner this week. Check back soon for another trip into the shadows. I’m thinking about a discussion on where horror went wrong with things like Sharktopus and Piranhaconda. Interested?
