Dexter’s Julie Benz Gets Supernatural for CBS
After siring the vampire known as Angel and dealing with the challenges of managing the household of a super-powered family, Julie Benz is no stranger to the fantastic or supernatural. Deadline now brings word that Benz is continuing down the paranormal path by signing on with Susannah Grant’s untitled CBS drama pilot, which will be directed by Jonathan Demme.
The new show focuses on ultra-competitive surgeon Michael (Patrick Wilson), whose life is forever changed when his deceased ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle) begins teaching him about life from the other side of the grave. Benz will portray Michael’s sister, an “unfocused and overwhelmed single mother with a huge heart.”
While there hasn’t been any official news yet, a second season for the struggling No Ordinary Family is doubtful. In addition to Benz hooking up with a second position pilot, NOF co-star Michael Chiklis recently signed on for the CBS comedy pilot, Vince Uncensored.
It’s a shame No Ordinary Family couldn’t find its groove (or get a decent storyline) but I’m glad both Benz and Chiklis have already found new gigs. I’m looking forward to seeing them in their new shows.
