Eva Mendes, Diane Kruger, Jessica Biel, Eva Green – Total Recall?
Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall started to gain some serious ground when Colin Farrell left David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis project for the role of Douglas Quaid/Hauser, and now Collider brings word that the two female leads are getting narrowed down.
In the 1990 movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the two major female roles are those of Quaid’s wife, Lori, and Martian freedom fighter Melina. Both Diane Kruger and Kate Bosworth have read for the role of Lori, and Paula Patton, Jessica Biel, and Eva Green have been given the script for Melina. Eva Mendes is apparently being considered for both roles.
Things might get a little spoilery if you haven’t seen the original movie so run out and get it on DVD and then check back for the rest of the story.
Ready now? Okay. There’s no word yet on how similar the reboot will be to the original movie but the Colin Farrell version is said to be closer to the Philip K. Dick novella, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, which was also the inspiration for the 1990 film. In the original story, Quaid never actually goes to Mars so the part of Melina could go through some changes.
Personally, I’d like to see Diane Kruger land the role of Lori because it seems like she could do a good job with the concept of happy little housewife turning into kick-butt assassin when Quaid gets too close to the truth. I’d also love to see Michelle Rodriguez grab the role of Melina but since she’s not in the running, I’d have to go with the second choice of Eva Green.
As long as everything continues to run on schedule, Total Recall is expected to hit theaters on August 3, 2012.
Any preferences on who you’d like to see in the movie?
