Futurama Back for 2 More Seasons on Comedy Central
I wonder if the execs at Fox ever kick themselves when they think about Futurama. They killed the show in 2003 but it found new life on Comedy Central and is still going strong. Someone definitely made the wrong call on that one.
EW.com brings word that the adventures of the hapless 20th century pizza delivery boy in the 31st century and his friends will continue for a little while longer, as the animated series is picked up for two more years. This is in addition to the upcoming June episodes so Futurama will be around at least through 2013.
While it’s easy for renewal info to get started over the slightest little mutterings in Hollywood, I think it’s pretty safe to say the Futurama info is pretty solid since it didn’t just come from some vague “inside source.” Nope! This info comes from Mauric LaMarche, the voice of Lieutenant Kif Kroker, who recently told Big Shiny Robot,
“13 new episodes have been ordered, with an additional 13 optional. This is apart from the 13 episodes that will air beginning in June, 2011, on Comedy Central. So, yes, they will air in 13 episode blocks (Comedy Central loves those, for some reason), so that means there will be new Futurama in summer of 2012, and most probably in summer of 2013 as well, all off of this one order. Pretty good news, actually, don’tcha think? Because we kind of spread it out, so there are always new episodes to look forward to. That’s how I look at it, anyway.”
