Ian McShane a King in Jack the Giant Killer

From pirate to king? Only in Hollywood is that type of promotion possible as THR brings word that Ian McShane, who plays Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has landed the role of King Brahmwell in Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer.

The New Line adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk has Nicholas Hoult in the lead role as a farm boy who threatens the treaty between humans and giants when he leads an expedition to rescue a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) from the giant who took her. The film also features Ewan McGregor as the man in charge of the king’s guard, and a little bit of CGI magic will transform Bill Nighy and John Kassir into the two-headed leader of the giants. Stanley Tucci, who’s always a great snake in the grass, plays an advisor to the king who has plans to get power for himself.

Jack the Giant Killer is being directed from a script by Darren Lemke, with Neal Moritz and David Dobkins producing. The film is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2012, but you can catch McShane on the big screen before that when On Stranger Tides sails into theaters on May 20th. If you haven’t already seen it, you should check out the latest poster of the movie, which features an awesome image of Captain Jack Sparrow and a burning ship.
