Jeff Smith’s RASL Optioned For Big Screen

Another comic book adaptation is setting sights on the big screen, but forget your heroes wearing tights. This one sounds fairly unique. The comic is called RASL, and is penned by Jeff Smith, also known for another comic called Bone. Smith writes and draws his comics. RASL, a black and white noir story, follows a character by the same name, who is “a former military scientist” who jumps into alternate realities to steal paintings, but gets into quite a lot of trouble along the way.
Variety reports “Warner Bros.-based producer Lionel Wigram has acquired feature rights” to make RASL into a film. What are Wigram’s claims to fame? Variety says he “produced the two Sherlock Holmes pics for [Warner Bros.] after penning the comic that was the basis for the reboot. He had served as a senior VP of production at Warner Bros. and oversaw the first three Harry Potter pics before signing a first-look deal with the studio.”
Smith’s other series, Bone, has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Eisner Award for Best Comics Publication for a Younger Audience, the Harvey Award for Best Cartoonist, the Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story, and the Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication.
