Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games, Kevin Costner in Superman

Katniss “Catnip” Everdeen is coming to the big screen! If that doesn’t warm the hearts of YA readers everywhere, I’m not sure what will.
Fans were wondering who the lucky actress would be who wins the right to portray the young heroine in the futuristic thriller who many are calling “the new Twilight.” We’re talking of course about the big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ wonderful novel, The Hunger Games, which is the first book in a trilogy you have to read to believe. Here on BSC we warned you actress Jennifer Lawrence was being considered for the lead role. Now we are very happy to report that the Academy Award nominee (soon to appear as the young Mystique on X-Men: First Class) has officially won the part, as TheWrap reports.
Talk about overnight success. When I first saw Winter’s Bone, I remembering thinking, more people need to see this little film! Well, Oscar nominations hopefully gave it the attention it deserved. The next thing I knew Lawrence was headed to A-List status. Congrats, chica! I can’t wait to hear who will play Peeta and Gale!
But hers is not all the news that’s fit to print. Actor Kevin Costner is making headlines as well. We told you he was being considered for the role of Superman’s adopted father Jonathan Kent…or Jor-El himself, fatherly either way. And now EW.com is spreading the word he will indeed portray Pappa Kent for Superman: Man of Steel. The film isn’t a sequel, either. Get that scoop now!
