Mandy Moore and Rodrigo Santoro Falling Slowly

Mandy Moore hasn’t exactly been a magnet for box-office wins, but she’s heading back to the big screen again, along with Rodrigo Santoro, for a spin in the horror genre, according to Variety.

The singer who provided one of the rare bright moments on Sunday’s Academy Awards and the Brazilian actor have joined up with writer-turned-director Chris Sparling for the supernatural thriller, Falling Slowly, about a couple whose apartment is haunted by a dark presence. Sparling has penned scripts for An Uzi at the Alamo, Buried, and the upcoming ATM, but this will be his first time in the director’s chair. That fact, combined with the stars selected, makes me have some serious doubts about how good this thriller might actually be.

In the past, Moore has appeared on the big screen in Love, Wedding, Marriage and Swinging with the Finkels, and on the small screen in two guest role stints for Grey’s Anatomy. However, her most recent movie success story comes from a movie that only featured her voice – Disney’s Tangled. She’s expected to lend her voice to another animated series when TRON: Uprising comes to television next year.

Santoro has been in 300, Che, Red Belt, and Post Grad, and already has Rio, Meu Pais, and Heleno lined up for 2012.
