Matthew Fox in I, Alex Cross with Tyler Perry

Get ready for author James Patterson’s books to return to the big screen. His Alex Cross novels are a staple in Hollywood. For Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls Morgan Freeman acted as Cross. Now the mantle has been passed along to Tyler Perry. No, he’s not writing or directing this time. He’s playing Alex Cross for the upcoming film I, Alex Cross. Wow.

Deadline.com has announced Perry even has a fairly well known co-star. Lost‘s Mattew Fox will join Perry to play an assassin! Wait a minute, the Party of Five actor kinda sorta did that before in his work in the thrilled Vantage Point. Yep. But not like this.

Deadline called Fox’s character “one bad dude,” saying, as “Michael Sullivan, [he] kills both for money and thrills.” Known also as “The Butcher of Sligo…Sullivan makes his retribution personal [after Cross interferes with one of his murders], by killing the detective’s wife in gruesome fashion.” Ruh-roh. In fact, it seems “Sullivan is one of the best known villains in the Patterson-penned novel series.”

I’m looking forward to this film. Are you?

The only other non-Madea related acting role for Tyler Perry that I can think of was his cameo in 2009′s Star Trek.
