5th Annual Book Tournament Results – Round 2, Malazan Empire and Westeros Brackets
Round 2 of the 5th Annual BSCreview Book Tournament has now officially drawn to a close, as we tally in the final votes for the Malazan Empire and Weteros brackets today. Round 3 is already in play for Middle Earth and Forgotten Realms, so hope on over there to vote if you haven’t already. Malazan Empire and Westeros will open round 3 tomorrow, Monday, April 4. In the meantime, let’s look at how the round 2 matches turned out for these brackets.
MALAZAN EMPIRE BRACKET
No. 16 Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor fell hard to no. 8 The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin, which claimed 75% of the votes.
15 seed The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson went down to 7 seed Geist by Philippa Ballantine, which moves forward with 64% favor.
Another top brass pick falls, as Damon’s other champion Brent Weeks’ no. 3 Black Prism gets edged out by no. 11 Passion Play by Beth Bernobich, which took 56% of the votes.
And finally Gail Carriger continues her run, with her 4 seed Changeless pulling out a win over 12 seed Salute the Dark by Adrian Tchaikovsky, with 61% of the votes.
This means that in round 3 the following matches will occur for the Malazan Empire Bracket:
8. The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin against 4. Changeless by Gail Carriger.
VS
7. Geist by Philippa Ballantine against 11. Passion Play by Beth Bernobich.
WESTEROS BRACKET
My last champion has fallen out of the tournament, as 1 seed An Artificial Night by Seanan McGuire handily stomps 8 seed Imager’s Intrigue by L.E. Modesitt, Jr., with 86% of the votes in the single most-voted on round in the tournament so far. McGuire fans–I tip my hat to you.
No. 2 Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld gets the KO blow from no. 7 Habitation of the Blessed by Catherynne M. Valente, which took 65% of the votes.
3 seed Blood Cross by Faith Hunter gets edged out by 6 seed From Hell with Love by Simon R. Green, which took 53% in the narrowest margin of victory in this bracket.
And finally no. 4 Chill by Elizabeth Bear keeps its momentum and sends no. 12 Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal packing with 62% of the votes.
This means that in round 3 the following matches will occur for the Westeros Bracket:
1. An Artificial Night by Seanan McGuire against 7. Habitation of the Blessed by Catherynne M. Valente.
VS
6. From Hell with Love by Simon R. Green against 4. Chill by Elizabeth Bear.
Round 4, for control of each of these two brackets, will kick off on Friday, April 8, between the winners of the above matches, so these rounds will close on Thursday the 7th. In the meantime, be sure to come back tomorrow to get these two brackets rolling in round 3!
