New podcast listener here, after seeing a mention of it on Twitter… Not sure I can stand to listen much longer. Some (not all) of Damon’s complaints are just bizarre – is he for real?
Some examples of the bizarro kind:

    1. amount of nudity – Have you read the book? If anything, there is a lot less sex and described nudity than what we read in the book, where paragraph after paragraph are used to describe sex, rape, and descriptive nudity. Or is there some kind of mass delusion where none of you recall this??? Then there is the fact that this is HBO. And still fairly tame by HBO standards.

    2. (From last podcast) Perspective being wrong in scenes – Specifically the Pentos scenes are mentioned. Scenes that are shot on location in Malta with NO EFFECTS WORK added! Yowza, my mind is just blown.

2B. Followup in this podcast where the complaint is now that ‘backgrounds are out of focus’?!?!?!? I’m really not sure if he is kidding or not. A shallow depth of field is frequently used as an artistic tool. Having everything in focus just looks like cheap TV and less cinematic.

    3. (last podcast) How can they adapt in in 10 hours, not enough!!! – In a world where 1000 page books are routinely adapted into 1.5 hr film, I don’t think there is any reason to complain here. If they can’t do it in 10 hrs, they (HBO) should frankly not even try.

Is Damon just playing ‘Armand White’, deliberately digging up ridiculous stuff in an attempt to be contrarian?

Look, I understand many of the character and other complaints Damon has, but seriously… Lay off the crack pipe for just a tiny bit. :-) Elena & Rachel, you are much more enjoyable to listen to.

But if this podcast just gets overshadowed by fan nitpicks (from Damon who DOESN’T EVEN SEEM TO RECALL THE BOOKS!!!), I don’t think I can continue to listen.

You know even though I am done with the podcast I’ll adress your stupidity

      1. Listen to what I said. It is a waste of precious screen time with some of the sex scenes. It’s a huge story and they waste time.

      2. Who said the added special effects. I said the backgrounds look fake due to the way the scenes were shot and lack of background activity

2b. Sometimes artistics tools don’t work. Here is a perfect example. It’s stupid

      3. As an example is everyone happy at the scenes left out in Harry Potter? No. Well there is your answer.

So maybe you should pick up the crack pipe and lay down the fanboi one

        Uncalled for IMHO.

He/she didn’t make it personal, he attacked your positions.

Good thing its only your opinion because if I am told to lay down the crack pipe I take it personal as well as making assumptions to my position.

Damon – Did you not see the smiley after the ‘crackpipe’? It was not meant in a harsh way.

As I stated, I had no problem with many of your opinions – I just had a strong reaction to some of the ones.

No malice was intended. People don’t have to share the same taste, and I realize that the show is far from perfect. The cutting/pacing is a bit too fast, and perhaps they should be been a less faithful adaptation. The sets in Kings Landing also look kind of stage-y.

            Damon,

Then you’re being dumb. This is the internet, and if somebody told you “to lay down the crack pipe” on or off of it, you think it was joke or half in jest just like it is almost ANYTIME it has ever been used in history.

    Hi Lars,

Thanks for listening! Glad you’re enjoying at least me and Rachel. (And I have to ask…you a friend of Jay? I only ask bc he and Damon like to rag each other, so maybe you’re a secret Sith agent :) ) The good news for you is that Damon and I discussed after the first episode was less-than for him, swapping him out for guests who are more into the show and series. So starting with the next one we’ll have a rotating third seat at the table.

      Elena,
Who is this Jay you speak of? No relation…

Sorry if my rant was a bit over the edge, I guess I should have read over my post a few more times.

I have no problem with critique – I realize the show is far from perfect. Damon’s issues just happened to really irk me I guess.

And I will be interested in hearing more of Damon’s thoughts of the season.

They are talking about me, and I actually – and I co-own the site – have no issue with anything you said. Clearly you listened to what was said, cared about it, and responded with no intent of a personal attack.
