Hunger Games adds Paula Malcomson, Emile Hirsch to Savages

The latest person to join Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games isn’t a tribute like Jack Quaid and Leven Rambin or Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg, but she’s still an important person because Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Prim (Willow Shields) wouldn’t exist without her.
THR brings word that Paula Malcomson (Caprica, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy) has recently joined the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel as Katniss and Prim’s mother, who has been living in fear of losing her daughters to ‘the Games’ ever since the death of her husband.
Elizabeth Banks is still circling the role of Effie with no commitment made so far, and John C. Reilly is the name that keeps getting mentioned these days when the part of Haymitch Abernathy comes up, although he also hasn’t officially taken the role yet.
Meanwhile, Oliver Stone’s Savages is giving The Hunger Games a run for its money when it comes to assembling the cast because Variety has reported that Emile Hirsch has joined the ever-growing cast that includes John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson and Benicio del Toro. Hirsch’s role hasn’t been revealed at this time, but even a small part has to be a thrill when you’re surrounded by some of the big names connected with this film.
The Hunger Games arrives in theaters on March 23, 2012, and Savages, which starts filming this summer, is also expected to have a 2012 release.
