Javier Bardem Closing in on Dark Tower?

Wow! Apparently nobody does suspense like Javier Bardem. We learned way back in January that the No Country For Old Men actor was offered the role of Roland Deschain in Ron Howard’s epic Dark Tower series and we caught a brief glimpse at a possible light at the end of the tunnel when we learned that he was “locked in psychologically,” but Deadline now brings word that Bardem is actually close to sealing the deal.
Really? It’s been four months and he’s just close? While the dragged-out drama can be torture for Dark Tower fans (me), I guess it’s understandable to take time with this deal to make sure everything’s lined up just right. The monster adaptation of Stephen King’s seven-novel series will cross back and forth between the big screen and small screen with three movies and two seasons of TV prequels between the movies, along with the possibility of two sequels. It’s a huge scheduling nightmare that’s expected to bring Bardem a huge paycheck.
Everyone must feel pretty comfortable that Bardem will finally sign onto the project because Howard has started to meet with other actors for the rest of Roland’s group, and things need to start taking shape pretty quick because production is expected to start in September.
There’s no word yet on how this might affect Bardem’s participation in the 23rd James Bond film.
