Logan’s Run Targets Its Writer?

Warner Bros seems to be doing things a bit backwards with Logan’s Run but THR reports that the movie might finally be getting on track as Will Beall enters into negotiations to pen the reboot based on the 1976 movie and 1967 novel. The project has been in the works for a while but it always seemed to stall out. Having a writer on-board once again is definitely a step in the right direction.
Beall entered the writing world with L.A. Rex, a novel set in L.A.’s crime world, and is currently a writer for ABC’s Castle. He’s also been tapped to write the reboot for Lethal Weapon.
Logan’s Run takes place in a dystopian future where people are executed when they reach a certain age (21 in the book, 30 in the original movie). People who don’t meet their fate voluntarily are considered to be runners and it’s up to the policemen/executioners known as Sandmen to either bring them in or kill them. Logan is a Sandman that’s forced to flee from his former friends when he’s mistakenly labeled a runner. At least that’s the premise of the movie; I haven’t read the book so it might be different.
Ryan Gosling has been cast in the role of Logan and Nicolas Winding Refn will be directing. Production is expected to start in the fall.
