Vaughn Talking X-Men First Class Sequel?

Hollywood is flooded by superhero films these days, with The Avengers set to be the biggest project of them all, but if any franchise has the muscle to steal the thunder from Thor and his buddies, it’s the team that actually made superhero movies cool.
X-Men: First Class looks like it will be awesome, but Total Film reveals that director Matthew Vaughn believes the first film was all about getting things started and that the story can really get going with all the character intros out of the way.
“First Class is similar to Batman Begins, where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time,” says Vaughn, “but with the second one you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time. That’s the main difference between Begins and The Dark Knight.”
Vaughn also doesn’t want to waste the gap that exists between the time of First Class and that of the first X-Men movie, saying 1962 might be a good setting for a second film, “1962 is far more grounded in the world of the ’50s. I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you’ve got The Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power…”
Producer Mark Singer sees some possibilities with setting a second film in the 70’s, and a third one taking place in the 80’s, saying, “That’s an idea that’s been discussed. How the characters go through time. But only to a point – they can’t age too fast!”
It’s not just the guys behind the camera that have ideas either. James McAvoy has a few ideas in mind for Charles Xavier, “In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head – maybe he can’t keep the voices out or something,” the actor speculates, “So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he become… Patrick Stewart!”
Get into that classic frame of mind with some nostalgic looking X-Men: First Class magazine covers and then get ready for the mutants to arrive in theaters on June 2nd.
