Bones – “The Change In The Game” – review

During a boy’s birthday party at a bowling alley, human remains are found in a jammed pinsetter. Identifying the remains as league bowler Jeff Fowler, Booth and Brennan look for the murderer among members of Fowler’s league. Meanwhile, Hodgins and Angela anxiously await the birth of their baby.
While the tone of Bones‘ sixth season finale was light, finding the murder weapon in a sea of bowling balls–all different weights–was no simple task. Still, I’ll bet viewers were as distracted from the main case as the regular characters were. In addition to the suspense of Angela’s labor and the question of whether her child would be blind, there was the question of whether Booth and Brennan made love in last week’s episode.
Thanks to video conferencing, Hodgins and Angela were able to contribute to the case even as Angela’s contractions came on. After Angela’s son–Michael Staccato Vincent Hodgins–was born perfectly healthy, Brennan revealed to Booth that she was pregnant and he was the father. He reacted with a widening smile.
The aftermath of sex/pregnancy is a potential jump-the-shark moment for many series, but I see Brennan’s pregnancy as an honest way to deal with Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy. If Bones does go on to jump the shark, at least it will have happened well into the show’s run.
