Jason Momoa in Conan the Barbarian Trailer

Conan the Barbarian assaults theaters in 3D beginning in August thanks to LionsGate. Jason Momoa is Conan this time around, taking the reigns from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who enjoyed the role in the past. As a great fan of Robert E. Howard, the writer who created Conan, I have to say I’m not 100% sold on Momoa yet. I don’t quite look at him and go, “Now there’s the Cimmerian,” but the full trailer, which you can enjoy below, you lucky film fan, you, definitely captures the sword and sorcery world where Conan stalks; A world full of political treachery and monsters a plenty.
Why don’t you watch and tell us what you think of Momoa. Howard described Conan this way, “black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth.” Of course he never apologized for taking the virtues of women as he pleased, either.
Here’s an interesting tidbit for you. It was long speculated Rose McGowan’s involvement in the film would put her into the shoes of Red Sonya. Instead we clearly see her in the trailer, not as her usual sensual self, but rather portraying Marique, the witch.
Director Marcus Nispel has a resume of film titles that include 2003′s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2004′s Frankenstein (The Dean Koontz version), 2007′s Pathfinder (A barbarian in his own right), and 2009′s Friday the 13th.
