Robert Pattinson Favorite Gust Van Sant Talks Twilight Breaking Dawn

Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant, whose works include Milk and Good Will Hunting, has told MTV, reports THR, just how much he wanted to direct Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, parts one and two. The favorite of actor Robert Pattinson did not shine during his pitch session to win the gig and, as we all know, rights went to Bill Condon instead.

“I got very nervous,” Van Sant said. “There were like 15 people. I had never really auditioned or gone into a job interview in that way since maybe 1988 or ’87. I guess I was unprepared for that. Usually people just hire me.”

Don’t you wonder what his version of the films would have been like? Of course, actress Ashley Greene, Alice Cullen to the franchise, enjoys Bill Condon immensely.

The feeling was a director “with a clear vision that closely followed the final book in Stephenie Meyer’s vampire series” was desired. Van Sant was not prepared to deliver that way in the session.

“I was talking about the book and really all I was saying was ‘OK, this is great, let’s go do it,’” he said. “That was my pitch, and I think they’re used to something else. They’re used to, for those of you who might audition for film jobs, they’re used to like a 40-minute dissertation with perhaps visual aids and a pep talk about how fantastic this project is going to be and I just didn’t know how to how do that.”

Here’s to hoping the director gets a nice follow up gig to feel better about the whole thing.
