Woody Harrelson in The Hunger Games

Oh my, oh my, oh my! You can release a deafening shout, my Hunger Games elite. Want to know why? Well, your favorite drunkard and Hunger Games survivor Haymitch Abernathy has just been cast! Congrats to actor Woody Harrelson, who I feel fits the bill completely! Scoot over Mad Eye Moody and Captain Jack Sparrow! Pass your flasks to Haymitch!

We delivered the news when Harrelson and Stanley Tucci were being sought for roles and now the pair of them have both been cast. Tucci is television personality and interviewer Caesar Flickerman. What do you think of these two fellas? I’m excited as ever!

As a one time survivor of the Hunger Games (and every year there usually can be only one), Haymitch is tasked with mentoring District 12 tributes (teen gladiators) year after year. Why does he drink? No amount of mentoring can make a tribute survive the ordeal. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him brilliant. Haymitch is also responsible for doling out helpful items during the rigorous games.

Actress Kristen Bell would love to play a tribute. She’s campaigning pretty hard, we hear. Effie Trinket, Haymitch’s pink-haired, too chipper counterpart, was the role won by Elizabeth Banks. Also, Wes Bently is our Seneca Crane.

According to the official Facebook page, filmmakers have cast boy and girl tributes so far for districts 12, 11, 7, 6, and 3. I hope they cast Cinna next!
