Bailee Madison Cast in FX’s Powers

11-year old Bailee Madison first appeared on camera when she was only two weeks old. Her first major film role was the 2006 film, Lonely Hearts. Flash forward to the present and Madison has been cast in the upcoming FX pilot, Powers. Powers is based on the comic book series of the same name, written by Brian Michael Bendis and art by Michael Avon Oeming. The show is written by Charles H. Eglee and will be directed by Michael Dinner.

Powers is a police procedural with a twist; superpowers are a common occurrence. It follows two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are devoted to working cases that specifically involve people with these “powers.” Madison plays a young girl named Calista, who is not from our world. She’s raised a man with powers called Eagle. Eagle’s wife gets murdered and he is forced to flee. Calista goes to stay with Det. Walker and the two develop a bond with each other.

As with any adaptation, you have to wonder how much of it will stay true to the source material. Comic books are tricky things to adapt and when they’re done improperly they can cause a lot of upset in the fans. I haven’t read this series, so I know nothing about it, but I’ve had other comic I’ve liked change drastically and it can easily ruin the series or film.

Bailee Madison can be seen in the upcoming horror film, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, in theaters August 26.
