Elizabeth Rodriguez is a Prime Suspect for NBC

Elizabeth Rodriguez has wowed the daytime crowd with All My Children and the stage crowd on Broadway, but now Deadline brings word that she’s returning for the prime time audience in Prime Suspect.

Rodriguez, who’s been nominated for a 2011 Tony Award and the 2011 Outer Critics Circle Award for her starring role in The Motherf**ker with the Hat, will be showing up in NBC’s new drama series, Prime Suspect, which revolves around Jane Timoney (Maria Bello) trying to do her job as a detective in a male-dominated precinct in New York City. Rodriguez plays another female detective on the force so I see the two possibly sharing a lot of screen time together as the two ladies form a united front against the testosterone gang.

The new series, based on a British TV series with the same name, also stars Brian F. O’Byrne and Aidan Quinn.

Prime Suspect was originally intended as a 2010 midseason replacement but a lead actress couldn’t be found that fit the role. With things now back on track, the show should be making an appearance during the 2011-2012 season.
