Green Lantern – Review: Green Superheroes, It’s Just Not Your Year

I review the new TV shows, movies, and recap the episodes you missed. In the words of Kermit the frog “It Not That Easy Being Green.” And that is true for superheroes. First Green Hornet flopped and now Green Lantern is being panned. Hal Jordan a risk taking test pilot is given the ring by Abin Sur. Hal has to prove that being human isn’t a weakness and overcome his fear to defeat Parallax. Also with his new found responsibility Hal must save his long-time love interest Carol Ferris from Dr. Hector Hammond. Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, and Mark Strong.

Yes it’s being panned by critics. Apparently though moviegoers don’t care what critics think. Look at the box office from Friday alone. It’s on pace to hit 60 million for the weekend. To me movie critics are worse than TV weather reporters. How can they be wrong so often and keep their jobs. I wish I got paid for giving my opinion. I personally liked the movie.

Actually Mick, if you want to look at numbers than you should know that Green Lantern may be at the top of the box office this week, but its debut made less than both Thor and X:Men: First Class did. In fact, to quote Box Office Mojo, its debut was “also less than The Incredible Hulk and the two Fantastic Four movies, and the attendance disparity was even greater. Green Lantern’s estimated attendance was even lower than Daredevil and Ghost Rider.”

Word of mouth will get around and soon no will go see Green Lantern. And to answer your question “How can they be wrong so often and keep their jobs,” well it’s simple. Critics give their opinions. Weather reporters give you “facts”. Thus, a critic can never be wrong. You could argue that if your opinion differs from the majority of people then you’re wrong, but in that case you would be the one who’s wrong as you disagree with 75% of critics.
