J.J. Abram’s Alcatraz Gets More LOST

Jack Bender

This should come as no surprise to anyone who is familiar with how the film and television industry works. When you find someone you like to work with you try and work with them as much as possible. That’s why, if you’re a fan of Lost, there are so many familiar names attached to Fox’s Alcatraz (J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burke, Elizabeth Sarnoff, and Jorge Garcia). One more Lost alumni is joining the series; Jack Bender. Bender has been hanging around on J.J. Abrams projects for over a decade. He’s directed three episodes of Felicity, 11 episodes of Alias, and a whopping 35 episodes of Lost. Bender is joining Alcatraz as an executive producer, alongside Abrams, Sarnoff, Burke, Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, and he’ll also do some directing.

Bender is a fantastic director and I think he’s pretty underrated. He’s been nominated for an Emmy four times for directing, but has yet to snag a win. Most recently he received a nomination for the series finale of Lost, which I found to be one of the most beautiful episodes of television ever crafted. I’ll be looking forward to any episodes of Alcatraz directed by Bender. The only thing that bums me out is the show doesn’t premiere until midseason, so there’s a bit of a wait ahead.

In case you couldn’t tell, Alcatraz will focus of Alcatraz prison and a prisoner who disappeared in 1963 and has reappeared in the present, no sign of aging and with revenge on his mind. Garcia’s character is brought in to solve the mystery of what happened at Alcatraz.
