Jamie Campbell Bower in The Mortal Instruments, Joins Lily Collins

Will the real Jace Wayland please stand up? You’ll have to use your imagination (but fantasy readers are good at that) and pretend that Camelot actor, Jamie Campbell Bower is standing. Why? Because he just won the star making role of Jace, Clary’s Shadowhunter in the big screen adaptation of The Mortal Instruments (which will presumably depict the events of City of Bones, book one in the YA urban fantasy series).

Does Bower look familiar to you? He should! He is King Aurthur in the STARZ series. He portrayed Volturi member, Caius, in the Twilight Saga (yes, another YA fantasy staple). He’s even Young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, parts one and two. Remember we told you he was in the running for this highly coveted role. I do fear fans will buck against this casting decision, but not everybody loved Robert Pattinson when they first learned of his casting as Edward Cullen. Some of those initial haters came around, didn’t they?

Not familiar with the series? Well, when Deadline delivered the exciting exclusive, they offered this synopsis of the plot:

He’ll play Jace Wayland, starring alongside Lily Collins, who’ll play the lead heroine Clary Fray. She has The Sight, and can see both demons and Shadowhunters. Jace is one of the best of the latter. When Clary’s mother is abducted, she is forced to learn about her bloodline and abilities in order to get her mother back.

Abduction and Grimm: Snow White actress, Lily Collins, is Clary Fray, our central character. Oh yes, and that was Bower in Tim Burton’s Sweeny Todd as well! And yes, he is British!

Mortal Instruments readers, consider this morsel: Jamie Campbell is also a JC = Jace! Food for thought!

   I don’t like him for the role. From the movies I’ve seen with him, he’s kinda skinny and wimpy. His character is supposed to be muscular and strong looking. Hopefully they make him beef up for the movie.

     I agree with you. I like Jamie, he’s really sweet, but he’s not Jace. Totally wrong bodytype for the role and that’s not something working out is going to change, he’s just not manly enough. Still, I’m going to give him a chance.

   This is a TRAVESTY. He cannot possibly do Jace justice and I will never, ever forgive the casting director. I can’t even give him a chance, he’s NOT JACE. *Fuming*

   (And why not Ed Speleers, honestly?!)

   Im seriosly going to cry if he plays Jace.
   hes just not him.
   Alex Pettyfer or Ed Speelers.
   Jace is my favorite character and if he is actually playing him, im not watching the movie. I dont want to see his face in my head when i read the books.
   Which may sound mean, but… Oh well.

   Alex Pettyfer needs to play Jace, not this guy. He is totally unacceptible as Jace. I am extremely angry after reading the series twice and knowing that this guy should not play him.

   I won’t watch The Mortal Instruments if he will play as Jace. I want Alex Pettyfer. :’( Alex Pettyfer is the perfect one to play the character of Jace. ALEX PETTYFER please.

   I’m very excited when I heard that there will be a movie but when I heard that he will be the one who will play the character of Jace, I’ve already lost my interest. F***. I don’t like him. I want Alex Pettyfer or somebody. Just not that actor. I’m sorry for the words. I just very sad and I’ve lost my interest in rereading the books. :’(
