John Carter of Mars Teaser Poster

How sci fi is this, my friends!? Here at BoomTron we were thrilled to hear the latest on the new John Carter of Mars film. The classic Edgar Rice Burroughs novel will come to the big screen, thanks to Academy Award winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton. Not since the Lost in Space reboot has some good old fashioned sci fi gotten the opportunity to put on such a modern shine. Stanton has chops, too, as evident in his story work for the Toy Story franchise and his directing and writing for WALL-E.

As we reported last year, the ever so good looking Taylor Kitsch (you might know him as Gambit from X-Men Origins: Wolverine) won the title role in the upcoming movie. Up above we are proud to unveil a stylish film poster, edgy in black and red. It comes via Apple.

The site described the film this way:

…a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

I’m reminded of so many wonderful projects every time I read about John Carter. John Blackstaar, Planet of the Apes, World War Hulk, all included. When we learn more, you will, too! Expect the Disney film to hit in March of 2012.
