Jon Hamm in for 3 More Mad Men Seasons

By now, we should all know that Matthew Weiner, creator of AMC’s period drama, Mad Men, signed a deal with Lionsgate TV for three more seasons, with the seventh season set as the last one for the critically acclaimed series. The path to this deal was rocky, and caused the production of the show to be delayed. Previously, Jon Hamm had a deal that saw him through to the end of the sixth season, but with the addition of another season, Hamm’s deal would need to be reworked to avoid any dangerous negotiations down the road.
Variety seems to think the talks with Jon Hamm went off without a hitch, reporting the actor will be around for 39 more episodes of Mad Men, seeing the show through til the end. By Season 7, Hamm, who has recieved several nominations and a few wins for his work as Don Draper, would likely earn more than $250,000 per episode. I’m glad all this was ironed out now. If they hadn’t updated his deal they could have found themselves in the same situation as Thomas Gibson and ABC Studios were in for Gibson’s return to Criminal Minds. Jon Hamm is not someone you can replace, so it could have meant delays in the seventh season. Luckily we never have to worry about those negotiations even having to take place since they’re already over and done with.
While the fifth season of Mad Men has yet to start production, the season is set to premiere in March 2012.
