Julie Ormond Superman: Man of Steel’s Mom?

We’ve known for a while that Diane Lane would be playing Superman’s adoptive mother, Martha Kent, but it takes some Kryptonian genes to transform a man into a Superman, and Deadline brings word that some of those genes might come from Julie Ormond in the role of Lara Lor-Van.

Negotiations are still going on but it’s hard to imagine her saying no because Zack Snyder’s little Superman reboot has some pretty big names already attached to it. In addition to having Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Michael Shannon as General Zod, there’s a decent chance the man of steel’s bio-dad, Jor-El, could be Russell Crowe. While he’s not actually a newbie, Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/Superman) probably feels like one when hanging around with a crowd like that. Another new face, for U.S. audiences anyway, is German actress Antje Traue as a possible version of Kryptonian villain Ursa.

In the past, Ormond has appeared in various movies, including First Knight, Legends of the Fall, Smilla’s Sense of Snow, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons.

Filming on Superman: Man of Steel is expected to begin this summer, with the theatrical release planned for 2012.
