Law & Order SVU Casts Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino

Danny Pino and Kelly Giddish for Law & Order: SVU

I’ve been watching Detectives Stabler and Benson since Law & Order: SVU first exploded onto the scene so I’m not real sure how I’ll handle new faces, but the latest from Entertainment Weekly reveals that the producers are taking things seriously because the two new additions to the sex crimes unit have some history with working on a TV series.

While Chris Meloni enjoys wearing the stars in Superman: Man of Steel, Danny Pino will be making the switch from Cold Case to SVU, while Kelli Giddish (sorry, Jennifer Love Hewitt) joins him after headlining two short-lived series’, Chase and Past Life. I don’t know if it’s just rotten luck with shows or if there’s a serious lack of talent but that’s not an impressive track record for Giddish. Even though SVU is the last of the Law & Order shows still playing, it’s still a serious contender so if Giddish can’t make it here then she can’t make it anywhere.

Pino, on the other hand, has shown that he has it what it takes to keep viewers coming back for seven seasons as senior detective Scotty Valens on the CBS’s Cold Case.

The network has already started talking about the possibility of more casting changes, but we can find a little comfort in the fact that Detectives Fin Tutuola (Ice-T) and John Munch (Richard Belzer), along with Capt. Don Cragen (Dan Florek), won’t be a part of those changes any time soon because they’ve all renewed for the upcoming season.

Are more changes really in SVU’s best interest?
