Mark Romanek Passes on Wolverine 2

It seems Logan is becoming the red headed step child of the comic book movie world. Not so long ago fans expected a Wolverine reboot to be shot in Japan starring Hugh Jackman from Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. The movie was supposed to be a re-imagination, not a sequel of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Then, sadly, in March 20th Century Fox announced Aronofsky’s departure from the project. Their bottom line was, even without the acclaimed director on board, “Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making ‘The Wolverine’. We will regroup and move forward aggressively.”
Today, in the digital spy exclusive, yet another director steps away from the adamantium claws. Romanek, director of Never Let Me Go was rumored to be “shortlisted” to inherit the project, along with The Source Code‘s Duncan Jones, Fast 5‘s Justin Lin and Bourne Identity‘s Doug Liman. Romanek confirms the rumors were untrue.
“That’s just one of those stories that floated around. I was on their list, I received the script months ago. It didn’t seem like my kind of thing. That script was a terrific version of that kind of thing, but not something I felt really passionate about.”
You have to admit passion is important in the execution of a good comic book adaptation. At least Romanek does reveal he thinks there’s a solid script in place. Until we learn who will take on The Wolverine, we’ll just have to re-watch his short n’ sweet cameo in X-Men: First Class.
