No Shatner in Star Trek 2?

William Shatner can say, “Never.” The iconic TV star was not featured in the popular J.J. Abrams Stark Trek reboot film, even though Leonard Nimoy was. Now, according to CinemaBlend, there is still a Shatner drought slated for the sequel. Of course 2 Spocks were integral to the film’s plot.
The $hit My Dad Says star recently appeared at the Calgary Comic Expo, where he participated in a typical Q&A session. The original Captain Kirk was asked about any involvement in the upcoming sequel and replied, “I have become an acquaintance of J.J. as of late but I’m afraid no… No, I will not be in Star Trek 2 I’m afraid.”
Let’s face it, when J.J. attempted Undercovers following a successful run with Alias, he probably learned not to do the same thing twice. I doubt the big Star Trek sequel will see characters meeting past or future versions of themselves. I think that device was a tool to allow filmmakers to put their own mark on the new Star Trek. Now, the films can go to new places without angering purist fans citing moments from the old show’s (and old films’ and books’) past mythos.
I suppose Shatner could still do a cameo as an alien or even a random crew member, but the man isn’t exactly Stan Lee, now is he? What are your intergalactic feelings on the issue? Maybe J.J. and Shatner will change their minds.
