A Game of Thrones and Peter Dinklage get Emmy Nods

Game of Thrones HBO

The Emmy Nominations are finally out and on some levels I’m really happy with a few of the nominees, but I’m extremely miffed over some of the shows that were snubbed this year. I think it will come as no surprise to anyone that HBO’s Game of Thrones received a nod for Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama for Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister. I can think of no other cast member more deserving of an Emmy than Dinklage and the series as a whole was easily the most rewarding to watch. It was filled with great acting, set design, plenty of action and blood and a well crafted story, all adapted from George R. R. Martin’s phenomenal A Song of Ice and Fire book series.

Receiving the most nominations this year was Modern Family (17), Boardwalk Empire (18), Mad Men (19) and Mildred Pierce (21). All of their nominations are more or less deserved, so my hats off to these fine shows. But what about the other shows that didn’t get what they deserve? I’m sure anybody who watches would agree that Community is more deserving of Outstanding Comedy than The Office or The Big Band Theory. Andrew Lincoln should have been recognized for his work on The Walking Dead. Where was the Fringe not for Outstanding Drama and John Noble’s always-fantastic portrayal of Walter Bishop? And what about Cougar Town? I’m dumbfounded that these shows could be overlooked, and just briefly skimming the internet shows a lot of people agree.
