Game of Thrones Season 2 – Carice van Houten and Stephen Dillane as Melisandre and Stannis

The second season of A Game of Thrones is getting a touch of magic according to EW.com, as Carice van Houten joins the cast as the sorceress, Melisandre. Van Houten has been seen before alongside Tom Cruise in Valkyrie and with Jude Law in Repo Men, but it’s probably safe to say that even those films won’t match the exposure she’ll get with A Game of Thrones. Melisandre, a “red priestess” described as “a seductive force possessing prophetic powers that’s willing to impose her religion on the world by any means necessary,” enters the picture as someone that counsels Stannis Baratheon, King Robert’s eldest younger brother, in his quest for the Iron Throne.
Stannis, who was hilariously described in Season 1 as having “the personality of a lobster” will be portrayed Stephen Dillane (Thomas Jefferson in HBO’s John Adams). He’s known for having a strict moral code but the power of his new-found religion might be too much for him to resist.
Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated series will also introduce Brienne and Margaery Tyrell, and someone from Starz’ Camelot will also be joining the party.
If you’re lucky enough to be hanging around San Diego this week, try to get into Comic-Con this because Game of Thrones author, George R.R. Martin, is moderating the first panel.
Want some more Thrones action? Then you won’t want to miss out on A Game of Thoughts, Boomtron’s re-read project where a newbie and a vet share their thoughts on the series.

Why was my comment deleted? Was it inappropriate? I’ll ask again, why is the show referred to a A GAME OF THRONES when it is called GAME OF THRONES. A Game of Thrones is the first book of the novels, but not the name of the show.

Hi Kelsey,
I think the comment section is acting weird. I got the notification that an email had been sent but didn’t see the comment posted here.
Thanks for the catch. I guess HBO messed me up when they dropped the “A” from the title, and I keep accidentally slipping it in there. I’ll be more eagle-eyed in the future.
