Liam McIntyre and Lucy Lawless Fit For Spartacus Vengeance

Spartacus Starz

Over on Access Hollywood Live, Liam McIntyre and Lucy Lawless showed up for an interview and we have a clip from the episode embedded down below. For all intents and purposes though, let’s just pretend Lucy Lawless isn’t even there since the video is all about McIntyre’s appearance in Starz’ Spartacus: Vengeance. If you want to know anything about Lawless and her character Lucretia then I suggest you take a look at this piece in Entertainment Weekly.

Apparently McIntyre went to the extreme to get in shape for the role of Spartacus. He says that he lost roughly 45 lbs, or a fifth of his body weight, for an unspecified role. He then had to gain that weight back on top of building a sufficient amount of muscle to play Spartacus. That’s a lot of abuse for one man’s body. Christian Bale went through a similar process twice before. He lost a lot of weight for The Machinist and then had to turn around and get ripped for Batman Begins, and then the same happened when he did The Fighter and now he’s doing The Dark Knight Rises. I could never put my body through those kinds of regimens. I like my weight to stay consistent, but they’re actors and committed actors at that.

As I’m sure you know, McIntyre is the second man to play Spartacus in the series. He’s replacing Andy Whitfield who had to drop out of production due to his cancer returning. Spartacus: Vengeance is expected to premiere at the end of January 2012.

About Brody Gibson

+Brody Gibson studied film in Vancouver, BC. I originally intended to become a video editor, but realized I have a passion for writing. To say I love television is a bit of an understatement. I watch it religiously, think about it constantly. To be able to talk about it is one the best things in the world. Combining that with my love of writing gives me the opportunity to express my opinions to the Internet masses and start gripping conversations.
