Mad Men’s Abigail Spencer in Raimi’s Oz, the Great and Powerful

Sam Raimi is known for directing such films as The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, The Quick and the Dead, A Simple Plan, The Gift and Spider-Man. His upcoming project marches to the beat of another drum. He’s behind Oz, the Great and Powerful. We’ve been following casting decisions for months. Black Swan actress Milla Kunis is attached to the film, as is 127 Hours actor, James Franco. Rachel Weisz, also known as the new Mrs. Bond in real life, may join them along with Shutter Island‘s Michelle Williams.
Well, today in the news, a new face joins in. She’s Mad Men‘s Abigail Spencer. I like the way THR describes the venture, calling it “prequel-ish” in regard to the original Wizard of Oz. Furthermore some vague plot details were released, suggesting Kunis, Weisz and Williams portray “powerful witches” Franco will encounter when a hot air balloon ride lands him smack dab in the center of Oz.
It does seem that while Franco is in Oz (or before or after his trip, who knows), the wizard will visit Kansas. Abigail Spencer’s character is described as “a willing subject of Oz’s magic tricks” during the magician’s visit.
Spencer also has a role in the upcoming comic book adaptation, Cowboys & Aliens, as well as This Means War, starring Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine, and scary movie The Haunting in Georgia.
