MTV’s Teen Wolf and ABC’s Rookie Blue Renewed

It’s a good week for summer television with MTV’s Teen Wolf and ABC’s Rookie Blue (see our interview with the show’s Enuka Okuma) having both been renewed for new seasons.
Teen Wolf started off fairly well for a new scripted series, which isn’t what MTV is usually known for. Viewers have been digging the fresh take on the original Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox. Each week it’s been pulling in 1.7 million viewers, which is just fantastic. It’s nowhere close to Jersey Shore, but that doesn’t mean it’s not acceptable. It’s not a show for everyone, myself included. I’ve been watching it, but find myself laughing in situations that aren’t supposed to be funny. Teen Wolf deserves a pat on the back though for doing much better than Skins, MTV’s other attempt at scripted television. Teen Wolf was picked up for a 12 episode second season.
Rookie Blue’s ratings have dropped a bit since premiering on ABC in 2009, but it is still the highest-rated series of the summer in its time slot. Every week this series about five rookie cops has dominated the ratings since its second season premiere. This continued excellence made it an obvious choice for renewal, so look forward to Rookie Blue third season next summer.
Already the summer programming is fairing a lot better than last falls new shows. I just hope that doesn’t mean more and more kids are staying inside to watch TV instead of going out and getting some exercise. The same goes for us adults. I’m glad that so many shoes are doing well this summer, but let’s not forget to go outside once in awhile.
