When it comes to defending Mega City One, nobody does it better than Dredd, but everyone has to start somewhere so Olivia Thirlby will show what it’s like to be a ‘new boot’ as rookie Judge, Cassandra Anderson. Heck, even Dredd was a rookie once; a frowning, mean, take-crap-from-nobody rookie.

The gang from Collider got their hands on some image scans from the latest edition of Empire Magazine, the “Heroes of 2012” issue, that provide a great look at the grittier feel of the new Dredd. Karl Urban shows he has the frown mastered as the new Judge Dredd, and the outfits have a much more believable look to them. This is what you’d expect a Judge to wear when dealing with scum on a regular basis.

It’s not a pretty sight is it? I’m willing to bet Dredd will be a better movie, just based on the costumes.

Dredd, which also stars Lena Headey as Ma-Ma, is scheduled to start enforcing the law in theaters on September 21, 2012. The “Heroes of 2012″ edition of Empire hits shelves on July 28th.
