Thorin Oakenshield of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Revealed

Behold, Thorin Oakenshield, the Dwarf prince. You see him now and you’ll get to meet him in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, thanks to Peter Jackson. And get this action fans, I do believe the weapon he’s wielding is called “Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver.” If that ain’t cool, I don’t know what is. Of course meeting the new Bilbo Baggins, portrayed by actor Martin Freeman is also nice. Gandalf puts in an appearance, too, if you’ll follow that link.

Boomtron has been making introductions all month. It seems the two upcoming Hobbit films will be heavy on Dwarf characters. We last met Balin and Dwalin, as well as Bofur, Bombur, and Bifur.

As for Mr. Oakenshield, theonering.net describes a survivor of “a great fire-breathing Dragon” which ransacked the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor killing lot’s of his family. When another monster, Smaug, stole the treasures within The Lonely Mountain, surviving Dwarves were forced into exile. These trials made Thorin into an incredible leader and wily fighter. For him, joining the new adventure is a quest for revenge.
