Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer Producing Austenland

Twilight Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer is known around the world as the person that brought Edward, Bella, Jacob, and the rest of the Twilight gang to life (or undeath), but as the saga begins to wind down with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 arriving in theaters in November, THR brings word that Meyer is venturing out from the little world she created in Forks.

The author will be producing Jerusha Hess’ Austenland under her Fickle Fish Films banner, which she runs with Meghan Hibbett. Moxie Pictures’ Gina Mingacci will also be producing.

Austenland, an indie romantic comedy, stars Keri Russell, JJ Field and Bret McKenzie, with supporting roles being filled out by Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart and James Callis. The film tells the story of a single, thirty-something woman that’s obsessed with Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Her infatuation with the fictional character is ruining her life because no real man can measure up, so she decides to take a trip to an English resort that caters to women that have an obsession with Jane Austen. Of course, with this being a rom-com, the story can’t end there. While enjoying her retreat, the “fantasy of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman becomes more real than she could have imagined.”

Shannon Hale wrote the book on which the movie is based, as well as co-writing the script with Hess. Austenland begins shooting in the U.K. this week.
