Game of Thrones Director Helming Marvel’s God of Thunder?

When last Boomtron reported on the Asgardian goodness that is the Thor franchise, we let fans know that Chris Hemsworth would be back in Thor 2, although with a new director. That’s right. Kenneth Branagh will not return, but Hemsworth has three major gigs we know about. One is Thor 2. One is Avengers. One is Snow White and the Huntsman, where he turns brunette. Of course Avengers unites Thor with Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye.
Now Variety reports Brian Kirk, director of many episodes of the intensely popular HBO series, Game of Thrones in circling the gig of Thor 2 director for Marvel Studios and Disney.
The exclusive filled in fans with the news that Kirk has also helmed episodes of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Showtime’s Dexter and a new incarnation of Great Expectations, but would be Kirk’s first shot at making a Hollywood blockbuster.
The Thor sequel, already has a scheduled release date of July 26, 2013! They also say plenty of mythological creatures will be involved.
As for A Game of Thrones, just yesterday we revealed the special effects of the series and noticed the cast in attendance at Comic Con. At the upcoming 104th Emmy Awards, the series earned 13 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Costume and Make-Up.
