Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen Retires?

I’m so glad we live in a world where women like Taylor Momsen can decide to retire from acting at the tender age of 18 (sarcasm), as if they know for sure what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Don’t get me wrong, right now she may very well not ever want to act again, but we’ve seen this kind of thing before. Remember Amanda Bynes? She came crawling back to acting in the end.

The fuel behind Momsen’s retirement appears to be her band The Pretty Reckless. In an interview with Elle, Momsen said, “I quit acting, actually. I quit Gossip Girl and now tour and am in a band and that’s pretty much all I want to do. Hopefully I’ll be able to only do that for the rest of my life.” It’s not a bad idea. In a sense she’s just switching one passion for another. More and more I’m hearing news about Momsen’s music career over her acting career. Maybe it makes sense for her to focus on music if it makes her happier. At the end of the day however, I’m willing to predict we’ll see Momsen in front of a camera again sooner or later.

My one worry for Momsen is the potential downward spiral she could get stuck in. The rock and roll scene is infamous for tempting young folk with all kinds of drugs. I hope Momsen’s fans can forgive me if I say I see her as someone who would easily fall prey to that kind of lifestyle.
