Momoa Wants Back in Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones HBO

It comes as no surprise that Jason Momoa, who played Kal Drogo in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, would miss playing the barbaric leader of the Dothraki. It was Momoa’s first big role as an actor and it’s what launched his career and allowed him to play the titular role in Conan the Barbarian. In an interview with HitFix, Momoa spoke of Game of Thrones heavily, believing that the writers could find a way to bring his character back. There are obviously some big similarities between Drogo and Conan, as far as their personalities go, but GoT is a completely different animal compared to Conan.

Conan was a lot harder,” Momoa says. “It was every day. Non-stop. Having to go to the gym. And to do the whole ab thing?  It was like being a robot.” GoT didn’t rely solely on Momoa, as it was an ensemble piece, so you have to wonder, “Can this guy handle his own solo film?” According to Momoa it was easy. “I took Conan because I had done Game of Thrones.  I had Game of Thrones in my pocket.  It was the greatest thing I’d ever done. I knew it was going to be amazing and that’s why I did ConanConan is easy compared to doing Game of Thrones.  I’m a physical guy. Conan is not a very challenging role for me. Drogo was extremely challenging.  To have to go learn a language like that.  To go toe-to-toe with 50 English actors? Amazing directors? Everything.  Conan is not Shakespeare.”

As much as Momoa may want to return, there are a lot of new characters coming in. Things might be too crowded for him to be brought back.
