S.E.T.I. – Genesis of a Possible New Star Trek?

In addition to having tons of people wearing brightly colored shirts and pointy ears, the 2011 Star Trek Las Vegas Convention also provided a little info on the possibility of a new Star Trek series soaring onto our TV’s.
/Film brought word of an interview that TrekWeb had with David Foster of 1947 Entertainment, and he was willing to share some information regarding his ideas about the Star Trek franchise returning to the small screen.
In case you’re thinking that Foster is simply grabbing hold of the high-flying coat tails of JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek, it’s important to point out that Foster was envisioning a new series back in 2006. Unfortunately, his partner in crime, Kevin Severson, passed away before their dreams of the Enterprise’s return could be realized.
Surprisingly, Foster revealed that his plans remain unaffected by Abrams’ film, saying, “Though Kevin and I did thoroughly enjoy Star Trek (2009), the vision that we have created is true to the “pre-2009 screen canon” (TV and movies). We were also careful with the Star Trek: Enterprise canon as well. Through the years, I have had the chance to get to know many of the original series cast, crew, and even some of the studio execs. I have developed an extremely deep passion for the original vision of Gene Roddenberry. And while Star Trek has moved on with other series that were not exactly in line with Gene’s original vision, the roots are there to tap into.”
While Foster doesn’t seem to mind talking about Star Trek, you won’t find any mention of it on the 1947 Entertainment website, although he did confess that S.E.T.I. was actually the code name for his Star Trek project, which currently doesn’t have a title that’s been made public.
We haven’t had a Star Trek series on the air since 2005. Is the world ready for a small screen version of the Starship Enterprise to sail into the stars again?
