Syfy’s Alphas Packs Summer Heat

One thing you can always count on from sci-fi shows like Alphas is the near constant flow of guest stars with endless amounts of experience in the strange and supernatural. In the Aug. 15 episode, Lindsay Wagner will be playing her Warehouse 13 character, Dr. Vanessa Calder. This role is significant in that it puts Alphas, Warehouse 13 and Eureka all in the same universe, allowing for future crossover episodes that could potentially melt your brain. Nothing is more epic than the three-way crossover.

Aug. 22 will see the appearance of the ubiquitous Summer Glau and the following week we’ll see Glau’s former Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles co-star Garret Dillahunt. Currently, Dillahunt can be seen on Rasing Hope as grandpa Burt Chance. At this point we can only assume that these two will be playing Alphas as the show continues with its “Freak of the Week” formula, but there’s always the possibility of introducing new human characters. Maybe they work at Binghamton as doctors or some such nonsense.

A bit of old casting news has some new relevance. We know Rebecca Mader (Lost) is guesting in the Sept. 12 episode, but now we know Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation) will appear in the same episode. I think Alphas is trying to set some kind of record for number of guest stars from recognizable sci-fi series. They have a long way to go before they hit that mark, but if they can manage a renewal (which they totally deserve) they might have a fighting chance.
