TRUE BLOOD Boss Brings BANSHEE to Cinemax

The big boss behind True Blood, Alan Ball, is looking to bring a new show to Cinemax reports the LA Times. At first the show, called Banshee, was being developed for HBO, but it was decided it would go to Cinemax in order to boost the networks amount of original programming. On top of Banshee, the network has a series based on the Transporter film franchise in the works. Premiering tonight is Strike Back, based on the British series of the same name. It’s about an American special-ops agent who joins a British military unit for some adventures around the globe. Sounds like a barrel full of fun.
Banshee takes in place in Pennsylvania Amish Country, revolving around an ex-con who poses as a dead sheriff. He spends his time dishing out his interpretation of justice while plotting his own schemes. The man is an expert in martial arts, which should give you an idea of the kind of action we’ll see. Unlike True Blood, Banshee will have zero supernatural nonsense. The concept sounds good. I’m mildly interested.
Ball and writers Jonathon Tropper and David Schickler are developing the show. Currently the shows finances and cast are being worked out with hopes of production beginning in spring. We likely won’t see anything from the show until late 2012, and I’d imagine it wouldn’t air until winter 2013. That’s quite a ways away at this point. In the mean time we’ll be listening closely as the show gets put together piece by piece, actor by actor.
