True Blood: Falling Apart, Coming Together

“I Wish I Was the Moon” begins with Bill charging into Sookie’s house while she and Eric are about to get it on and arresting Eric. Honestly, I kinda like this Bill. He’s a man can stick to his guns. I like that he tells Sookie she’ll be arrested if she comes back onto his property. What I don’t like is that he’s lying about how dangerous Eric is just to get rid of him.
My heart breaks for Pam. The scene between her and Eric in the prison cell is desperate. She’s rotting, pieces of her face are literally falling off, and the maker she has been loyal to for over 100 years is going to allow himself to be killed without any fight. Her face is a metaphor for her life, it seems. Everything is falling apart.
When Arlene’s house catches fire, they narrowly escape before it explodes. Despite all those times Arlene has said the baby is creepy, he was the first thing she went for when the house caught fire. It just goes to show that she really does love the baby. I’m pretty curious to see whether it’s the doll or the baby that is evil, though. When Arlene sees her kids on the front lawn, she doesn’t go, oh my god, kids, I’m glad you’re all right. She goes straight for Mikee and talks about how happy she is he’s safe. She doesn’t even hug her other children. The writers have really thrown those kids in the backseat, haven’t they? We didn’t see them for an entire season and now, when we do see them, they are kind of like ugly step children.
Have we seen that woman the baby sees before? I wonder if she’s the spirit that haunts that baby doll? She seemed pretty nice looking, but I’m sure she’s evil somehow.
Why is Terry holding an armadillo? Is it his pet? Did I miss that? I’m terribly alarmed by this.
When Sam calls Tommy to open the bar, he can hear Tommy crying. I never thought I’d actually feel sorry for Tommy, even if it is short lived. He spent his entire life being abused by those awful parents, and the abuse continues even after they are dead because he feels so terrible about killing them. I’m not at all surprised he can change into people now. Didn’t we call this the minute Sam’s girlfriend tells that story about skinwalkers? I thought he would try to kill Sam, to be honest, but we knew he’d be a skinwalker either way.
I have to hand it to the actor who plays Sam. The entire time he impersonates Tommy impersonating Sam (that’s a mouthful) he looks and talks just like Tommy. It’s amazing. It’s hilarious when Sam’s girlfriend shows him her boobs. He looks like a kid in a candy store. He has to realize that this is going to bite him in the butt when he’s done pretending to be Sam. All these people that he’s been crazy with, like Sookie and the girlfriend, are going to let Sam know he was a jerk. Sam’s gonna figure something is going on when they say he’s been doing things he hasn’t done. He’s gonna remember the story of the skinwalkers, and then he’s gonna figure out it’s Tommy. Way to go, Tommy…you’re dumb.
Tara’s girlfriend shows up at her doorstep looking for the girl whose mail she’s been getting, and Tara gets to tell her the whole story. I don’t like how they make her girlfriend “tough.” The actress really isn’t very good at pulling it off. When Pam is tough, you can tell it’s not an act. When this girl acts tough, I think of a child who is trying to intimidate someone but is unsuccessful.
I like how Sookie laughs at Jason when he tells her what happened. Jason may be a lot of things, but he’s not a liar, and he’s not clever enough to come up with this story all by himself. Why would it take her so long to figure out that Jason is telling the truth and then help him? The more I watch this season, the more I realize that Sookie is the least clever character out of this entire series. And there are some pretty dumb people on this show! It’s sweet that she sits with Jason while waiting for him to become a panther. Funny, though, since she seems to have forgotten all about Eric while she sits with him. I was actually surprised when Jason doesn’t turn. He does turn in the books, so I assumed he would turn in the show. They keep surprising me like that!
Alcide comes home to find Debbie hanging around with that Pack leader who threatened him last episode. I got excited, because I thought she was going to get crazy on Alcide, but she was surprisingly rational with him. Debbie’s right, though, she can’t make Alcide her whole life. It’s not good for anyone to rely solely on one other person to make them happy.
I’m annoyed the no one was watching Marnie more carefully. Don’t they have camera’s on her? Wouldn’t you keep them monitored if you were worrying about her casting crazy spells? Just because you locked her in a cell doesn’t mean she can’t cast spells. Also, I really liked the idea that the witch was burned at the stake and cursed the vampires to walk out into the sun as her revenge, but I really hate the idea that she was raped by vampires. It’s been overdone. Wasn’t it enough that she was betrayed by vampire clergymen who had her burned at the stake? I can’t with the constant raping going on in this show. If every character in this show ends up being raped, it kind of loses its effect. It’s not as shocking if it’s happened to everyone. What are they going to do to stop this powerful witch now that they just left her in a cell to become possessed again? That’s what I want to know.
Jesus is ridiculous. Lafayette is a dummy for getting with this guy and traveling with him right to the evil grandfather’s house. They both deserve whatever they get.
I’m proud of Jessica for saying she would never go back to being a human. She’s right. Her old world didn’t compare to what it is now. I’m a little disappointed that it seems like Jessica is gonna end up cheating on Hoyt with Jason. Good old Jason, though, he’s a pretty good guy when all is said and done. He wouldn’t want to do that to Hoyt. Say what you will about his intellect, Jason is a good friend and genuinely cares for others.
When we finally make it back to Eric, we learn that even though Bill has gone through the authority for permission to kill Eric, he’s just not going to be able to do it. He can’t kill Eric, which solidifies my liking for him even more. We are looking at a more powerful Bill, and sometimes that power seems to go to his head. Combine that power with jealousy, and we can see that Bill has every reason to want to kill Eric. But Sookie told him it was wrong, and once he talks to Eric, he can see that she was right. This isn’t the same Eric, and Bill’s conscience won’t allow him to kill this new Eric.
Finally, one of Bills vamps looks at Marnie on the screen. Oh, so NOW we watch the screens? Really? You’d think after being alive for hundreds of years you might be a little more intelligent. If the witch controlled his maker until he walked into the sunlight, why would he think he could just walk in there and she wouldn’t do that same thing to him? The writers of this show don’t put a lot thought into what happens.
Bill lets Eric go, and he immediately finds Sookie. Their kissing scenes are always really awkward looking. But the True Blood watchers who have been waiting for Sookie and Eric finally got that scene they were waiting for. The great thing about this show is that the seasons always come to an exciting end, even if the beginning episodes were weird.
Final thoughts? I absolutely love Neko Case’s song at the end of this episode. I wish I was the moon tonight (which is also the title of the episode, if you were paying attention) is beautiful, and Case’s somber and wistful melody closes Sookie and Eric’s scene quite well.
